Sen. Barack Obama, of Illinois, and wife Michelle team up with talkshow host Oprah Winfrey during a campaign trail. By Booker T. Pressley Williamsburg County Correspondent - Our Neighborhood Newspaper

COLUMBIA, SC- Thousands of fans flocked to see the famous talk show host, Oprah Winfrey, Presidential Candidate Senator Barack Obama and his better half Michelle. 29,000 stood strong, cheered and praised Oprah and Obama at the event that was recently held at Williams-Brice Stadium Sunday, December 9, 2007.

Winfrey, who has not endorsed a presidential candidate before, is "stepping out of herpew", as she puts it. "I've been inspired. I've been inspired to believe that a new vision is possible for America", she told the crowd.

Winfrey spoke of the late Dr. King's dream. She said, "Dr. King dreamed the dream, but we do not have to dream the dream anymore. We get to vote that dream into reality". Obama and Winfrey sent a message to the crowd that a change is what America needs. "One that they can believe in", Winfrey said. "I am not supporting Obama because he is Black". "He wants a change for America and unity", she said.
Obama received a standing ovation, when he said that it was time to "Stand Up" for a change. Many look forward to the change that Obama can bring. Two of the campaign issues Obama briefly focused on included: the war in Iraq and his plan to withdraw the troops within the next 16 months when elected, and the main factor for carrying out his plan of universal healthcare by the end of his first year in office.

After leaving the stadium, law enforcement officers patrolled traffic as the fans made their way back to their vehicles. The fans also had a chance to keep the memory alive of this historical event by purchasing T-shirts from vendors that were parked alongside the streets.
